Sir James Whitney’s co-curricular program provides students with opportunities to develop their leadership skills in activities outside of the regular classroom. SJW students compete against students in other provincial schools, as well as students in schools with programs for the deaf across Ontario, and teams from the local school board. Try-outs for these competitive teams are held throughout the school year. Intra-mural athletics are supported through a house league program that encourages active participation.
School clubs reflect the interests of both staff and students. Opportunities are provided for involvement in: Student Parliament, yearbook club, bowling, hip hop dance classes, “green” projects such as recycling and composting, sewing and craft classes, Hoops basketball, snowboarding and skiing lessons. These activities are intended to develop the leadership skills of the students within the school, the community and the world.
